Title: Clinic Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Technician

Department/Unit: Clinic Laboratory  – Would consider PRN or Fulltime

Reports To: Clinic Laboratory Manager

General hours of work: Monday through Friday (Days) with evening and weekend involvement

Job Purpose/General Summary:

Perform clinical tests and procedures in all functional section of the laboratory.

Maintain records of performance as defined by laboratory’s standard operating procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Specimen Collection and Handling:

1. Draws patients.

2. Determine acceptability of specimens by checking name, time requirements and collection requirements.

3. Identify potentially inappropriate test orders. Refers questions to manager, pathologist, nurse supervisor, nurse or physician. Recommend appropriate tests/profiles when/where applicable.

4. Process specimens appropriately using defined test requirements.

B. Testing and Analytical Procedures:

1. Produces and completes accurate results by using written procedures.

2. Organizes workload so testing is completed within designated turnaround times.

3. Performs routing troubleshooting of tests and instruments by finding source of problem and notifying key operator or manager.

4. Maintains an adequate amount of supplies by routinely taking inventory and notifying manager when supplies need to be replenished. Uses supplies in a manner that is both patient care and cost effective.

5. Requires no more than routine supervision of work done by carrying out workload in absence of the supervisor and can direct others.

Title: Medical Technologist/Medical Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

6. Verifies abnormal results by repeating testing when necessary.

7. Adheres to laboratory safety policies by following established procedures and using appropriate protective equipment.

C. Reporting Results:

1. Reports results accurately on worksheets, history cards and requisitions.

2. Documents panic values on requisition after rechecking results and calling values to the appropriate area personnel.

D. Quality Assurance:

1. Performs and records required Quality Control.

2. Performs preventative maintenance by following written procedures and schedules.

3. Remains informed and participates in the resolution of quality assurance issues.

4. Exhibits proficiency by successfully completing analytical surveys and competency evaluations.

Employment Requirements:

A. Education: Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or Associates Degree in Medical lab tech

B. Experience: Experience would be helpful but we would consider a new graduate!
